The network analysis and security trainings given by Laura Chappell are known worldwide as the best there are. NGN got her back to the Netherlands and I visited her two day training early this week (20 and 21 nov).

To hear her talk is an experience itself. She taught us about honeypots, host forensics, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing and hard drive investigation techniques. She showed us how to kill a large corporate network with a single data stream. We analyzed the data at packet level and she showed us how to protect our networks for such hacks.

In between she talked about her experiences at the FBI and Secret Service, and how the cybercrime teams catches the big spammers and investigates computers from criminals all over the world.

In the evening we had to bring in our own laptop to try some stuff ourselves. Look at the photo’s I took from the conference centre hall with 300 security experts, all operating a wireless laptop. Totally crazy! I would have liked to see the face of the conference centre IT engineer who was monitoring his AP!

Keep in mind that if you connect your computer to a network, no matter what kind, there is always someone listening!
Oh yea, we all got an usb stick with security whitepapers and a nice toolset on it. So beware!
